The August 1 Core Update has been shaking up a lot of rankings. It appears to be a quality update and is expected to continue rolling out this week. What we think we know:
  • Undervalued sites are seeing an improvement in their rankings.
  • This is applying across the board and hitting a wide range of sites including ‘your money your life’, local, travel, e-commerce sites, and more.
  • Expect traffic to follow rankings.
  • You’ll need time to know how good / bad this update is for your site.
What you can be doing: Your site can always use some improvement. Without going nuts (until we know more) you can go back and look at quality. Does the quality of your on page content match your best practices? Have you cleared out the old junk? If your site and all your content is perfect (unlikely but hey I’m ready to be convinced) take another step back. Look at the technical issues on the site or even your Expertise, Authority, Trust. Technical and E.A.T issues don’t appear to be part of this core update but it’s always good for your site to consider them. And then what? If you have specific questions, send me an email. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this and hope to have real actionable news soon.   ~JoMarie
